Trust & Security

We built Myximus because privacy shouldn't require trust.

You shouldn't have to take our word for it. Here's exactly how it works — and what we can't do.

In plain English

What our security claims actually mean.

Plain English first, the technical detail second. No black boxes, no marketing fog.

🔐

What does zero-knowledge actually mean?

+

When you save a document to Google Drive, Google's servers process it in plain text. They can read it, search it, analyze it, and hand it to anyone who asks. Zero-knowledge means your document is encrypted in your browser before it ever leaves your device. Our server receives an encrypted blob we cannot decode. Even if we wanted to read your documents — we can't. Even if a government demanded them — we'd hand over meaningless encrypted data.

Technical
AES-256 encryption. Keys derived from your master password using PBKDF2. The key never leaves your device.

Applies to: Myximus Vault, Myximus Docs.

🖥️

What does self-hosted mean for you?

+

Every file, message, and document you store on Myximus lives on a server we control — not Amazon, Google, or Microsoft. When you delete something, it's gone. Nobody else has a copy. No Terms of Service change can suddenly give a tech company access to your data because your data isn't on their servers.

Technical
Single-tenant DigitalOcean droplet, NYC1. PostgreSQL for structured data. Encrypted at rest. No shared infrastructure.
🛡️

How does Sentinel detect spyware?

+

Sentinel compares your device's accessible history against databases of known surveillance tools maintained by Amnesty International, Citizen Lab, and others. If your device contacted a server used by Pegasus, Predator, or other known spyware — we find it. We also check for stalkerware, Big Tech telemetry, and suspicious behavior patterns. Everything we find is explained in plain English with specific recommended actions.

Honest limitation

Browser-based scanning sees network and browser history. The Sentinel Agent (Windows/Mac desktop app) goes deeper — process history, system logs, crash reports. Sophisticated spyware that leaves no accessible traces may not be detected.

💬

What does E2E encryption do — and not do?

+

End-to-end encrypted means only you and the person you're talking to can read the message. Not us, not your ISP, not the government — nobody in between. But E2E encryption doesn't protect against someone who has physical access to your device, or a keylogger recording what you type.

How it works at Myximus

Myximus Chat messages are encrypted in transit and at rest on your server. Voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted via DTLS-SRTP — the same standard used by Signal for calls. Full end-to-end encrypted chat is on our roadmap.

📵

Why does no phone number matter?

+

Your phone number is one of the most powerful identity anchors that exists. It's linked to your real name via your carrier. It can be subpoenaed. It can be used to track you across services. Signal, WhatsApp, and Telegram all require it — which means they all know who you really are before you send a single message. Myximus requires only an email address.

What Myximus doesn't do yet

The honest limitations.

We believe in telling you exactly what we can and can't do.
